Above is the video of our new Key Stage 1 tadpoles! I will be looking after them at home over the school holidays and the key worker children will help us to look after them next term until we see you all again. I will continue to add photos below as the tadpoles grow and change- please have a look and if you want to draw pictures or write about how they are changing then that would be great! Hopefully we will all be back at school together by the time they turn into frogs but if not we will keep you updated on here. Have fun everybody!
Hello again everyone. I hope you are all keeping well and are managing to have some fun in the lovely sunshine. Thank you for all the fantastic photos and emails that you have sent us- we love seeing what you are getting up to. We have been looking after the tadpoles carefully and they have been enjoying their lettuce, pond weed and the sunshine. They have not grown legs yet (it does take quite a while) but they have turned a greenish colour with speckles on and they are much bigger than when you last saw them. They are also not as round as they were before. It's tricky to show these changes in shape and colour on a photograph but I have done my best.
Hi everyone, I thought you would be excited to hear that some of our tadpoles now have back legs! They are still quite small at the moment and it's tricky to get a photo as they move so quick but I have done my best to show you using a couple of pictures and one short video. It shouldn't be too long now until their front legs start to appear and then we can take them out of the water and move them into a tray. I will keep you updated on how they are doing soon.
Hello again everybody! You will be excited to know that we have our first froglets! Some of the tadpoles which had back legs have now grown their front legs too and are able to crawl and jump around. You would be surprised how high they can jump for such tiny animals! They still have a tail at the moment but over the next week this will be absorbed into their body and they will be frogs (although still small ones at the moment.) A few more are about to grow their front legs any day now so I am watching carefully as they need moving out of their tank and into their tray as soon as they have legs so that they can get out of the water to breathe and eat. I will then post some pictures when I release them back into their pond. (We can't keep them as they are wild animals and not pets so I will put them back near the pond I got them from when they are ready.)
Hi everybody, our froglets have now absorbed their tails and are little frogs! They are very jumpy and move around lots so it was tricky to get photos without losing any! I have added a few photos and a short video so you can see what they look like now and I will be releasing them back into the wild near their pond this week. I hope you have enjoyed watching them grow and change as much as I have, Miss Bailey :)
